We are pleased to present the inaugural edition of INSTALLNYC’s quarterly newsletter, designed to keep you up-to-date with the happenings of the INSTALLNYC training and workforce development program for union floorcoverers and contractors. As you may know, we are in the midst of an exciting period of growth and development. Our program has recently been endorsed by a growing number of real estate owners, building managers, architects and corporations across the nation, and our latest endorsement came from CBS Corporation as you will read in this issue. We will continue to educate real estate, design and construction professionals on the value of the INSTALL certification program-the best bet to get flooring done right, the first time! We are currently developing a continuing professional education series in cooperation with trade organizations for design professionals, as a way of helping our professional partners understand the value of the INSTALL training program.

Also in the issue, you will find an article that outlines our training program—which includes four rigorous years of training that ensures the highest quality work by the tradespeople who complete our program. Across the industry, INSTALL has set high standards for all installers to possess both fundamental and graduated levels of skill, competence and experience. Finally, you will also note that labor and management are working together to support our communities and we recently supplied materials and skilled labor to the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester for their housing facility.

We look forward to hearing from you and we invite you to contact us today to learn how you can put our skilled INSTALL certified installers to work for your organization.

Consolidated Carpet, one of the nation's leading commercial floor covering contractors, and a member of the Greater New York Floorcoverers Association, Inc., recently contributed 400 yards of new carpet to the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester as part of a labor-management philanthropy initiative. The donated carpet will be used to update the YMCA housing facility, which shelters more than 750 men participating in its Residence Program. Areas covered include the hallways on four floors, as well as 12 rooms in the facility. Carpenters Local 2287 isinstalling the new carpet and the installation is scheduled to take place over two weekends, with a team of 10 union members donating their time and skills to complete the project on an accelerated schedule. The result will be a true labor-management partnership, offering the community valuable materials and skilled craftsmanship, and a commitment to civic responsibility only found within the unionized construction workforce.
